Coastal Escapade – Devbagh, Tarkarli, Goa

Let’s just begin this story with the highlight of the ride…Roadtrip – Scuba Diving – Tarkarli!

Tarkarli is a village in Malvan taluka in Sindhudurg district in the Indian state of Maharashtra. It is tourist destination and an attractive beach. A long coastline and pristine clear waters make this an ideal romantic escape. Located at the confluence of the Karli River and the Arabian Sea, Tarkarli has gained prominence because of its long and narrow stretch of beach with pristine waters and water sports, specifically Scuba Diving, which you’ll find out from the exclusive underwater photographs.

Tarkarli is located at a distance of 488 Kms from Mumbai (Via NH 66). Hence it was the ideal destination for a bike ride. As usual, we met up at 4:30 AM at Kalina and straight away proceeded with the journey. The sheer excitement made us oblivious to the chilly December morning. We halted for a spot of breakfast at Hotel Nisarg in Mahad, just so we could re-energise before hitting the twisties. It was here that we were joined by a lone rider on a KTM Duke 390, who also seemed enthusiastic about our itenary.

While on the highway, we were hit by a few minor technical snags, no biggie, sorted them out in a jiffy and managed to reach Devbagh Beach by 7 in the evening. After a bit of hotel scouting, we managed to seek accommodation at a brilliant small, but cosy, resort overlooking the creek (can’t remember the name…Sorry :P). However, we had to get food and beverage from nearby shops. FYI everything is available there at a stone’s throw. The following day…Scuba Diving, something we had only seen on the telly and never personally experienced. 45 minutes into the sea, scuba diving was a surreal experience, and that too for a mere 1500 INR (includes underwater video and photography). I’m certainly going back to Tarkarli for a proper Deep Sea Diving course, organised by MTDC.

Since Goa is a mere 146 kms form Tarkarli, we had planned to hit up paradise city and the rest as they say is history. Although this was the second time I was visiting Goa in 2 months, the excitement sure was overwhelming. Starting with Scuba diving, to scouting uncharted beaches, parasailing, saving a puppy on the highway, to getting lost in the wilderness of the Amboli ghats, this was one hell of a trip, to remind us to hit the highway often and utilise our youth to the fullest. Well, I hope you enjoy the pics as much as we enjoyed the ride!
