Roadtrip, Bonfire, Bhandardara

In-case you Mumbaiites are looking for a quick weekend getaway during this refreshing bit of winter, take a short road trip of 170 odd kilometres, and get ready to be amazed.

Hidden amidst the luscious hills of the Western Ghats in Maharashtra, Bhandardara is a camper’s paradise, with a gorgeous view of the serene Lake Arthur.

How to reach Bhandardara:

It’s approximately 170 kilometres from Mumbai City (via NH 6). You can refer to the below map:

Traveller’s Tip:

  1. Before going to Bhandardara, making your bookings at the MTDC Resort. Their property has the best possible location, with a serene view of the lake. The dormitory is warm and comfortable, but needs plenty of care. The food is basic, but quite tasty…and no, alcohol is NOT available.
  2. Take your favourite snacks and liquids along for a night around the bon-fire beside the lake – MUST TRY!
  3. Remember to take plenty of warm clothes along. It does get quite chilly in the night.
  4. Definitely go for boating during sunsets, to hone your sunset photography skills.

Fun Fact:

Of the many sight-seeing places in and around Bhandardara, the trekker’s delight is Kalsubai – having the highest peak at 1646 metres, thus rightly earning the title “Everest of Maharashtra”!
